Post-Graduate Opportunities

The Space Technology Centre is a vibrant research group working on exciting space projects. Post graduate students become part of the overall team working on critical aspects of new technology for and related to spacecraft. Former postgraduate students have seen their work become essential elements in new spacecraft systems or important tools for their design and development. For example, one PhD student’s work resulted in the design for a SpaceWire router chip which is now being sold by Atmel for use in spacecraft onboard data handling systems. Another student developed crater simulation tools which have been integrated in the PANGU tool used by ESA and European space industry for the development of autonomous navigation systems for planetary landers. Current students whose work is having an immediate impact on European space technology are working on spacecraft simulation and network management for SpaceWire networks and spacecraft simulation tools.

We are always seeking new post-graduate students, from the UK, Europe and internationally. We welcome specific project ideas that a student wishes to pursue (related to our expertise) or students that simply want to work in this demanding, international field of research. What we demand is commitment, hard work and a good first degree in mathematics, engineering, physics or computer science. In some cases we are able to offer bursaries to contribute towards tuition fees.
