Space Technology Centre awarded SpaceNet grant from ESA

The Space Technology Centre at the University of Dundee was awarded a contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) to research various technologies for use onboard spacecraft.

The aims of the SpaceNet project are:

  • To research and develop a VHDL implementation of the SpaceWire Remote Memory Access (RMAP) protocol.
  • To research, develop, prove and standardise efficient and effective networking protocols for SpaceWire to enable SpaceWire to be used in a broader range of spacecraft avionics applications.
  • To test the SpW-10X SpaceWire Router chip under very heavy load conditions to ensure that there are no problems with the device. This chip was designed by the Space Technology Centre and Austrian Aerospace.
